2021 Mustang Mach-E Premium AWD is AAA’s Best Car for 2022

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E fitted with Ford’s Premium All-Wheel Drive just earned AAA’s Best Overall Car for 2022 award, the latest prize for Ford’s all- electric SUV. AAA evaluators delivered high praise to the Mach-E regarding its stylish new profile, powerful engine, and for being quiet, fast, spacious, and fun to drive. The Mustang Mach-E keeps gaining customers too, with U.S. sales up 23 percent through April.

The AAA Car Guide offers complete reviews of each vehicle based on 12 areas to score them, including: number of ADAS safety features, fuel efficiency, emissions, braking and handling, ride quality, and acceleration.AAA research found nearly 80% of all drivers want automakers to focus on improving fuel economy, while 76% want advanced safety tech such as automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control.

In 2021, domestic electric vehicle sales shot up to almost 477,000, which is just 3.3% of all vehicle sales for the year, but an 81.5% increase over 2020, according to AAA.

“EV sales, while small, are growing – and the signs are everywhere that the future is electric,” said Skyler McKinley, regional director of public affairs for AAA. “That future may arrive even faster, given consumer concerns about the environment, the political impacts of fossil fuel reliance, high gas prices, and the gradual phasing-out of gasoline-powered vehicles altogether.”

The 2021 Mustang Mach-E also earned a range of other awards, including Car and Driver’s Editor’s Choice Award and Electric Vehicle of the Year Award, the Cars.com Eco-Friendly Car of the Year Award, AutoGuide’s Utility of the Year, Green Vehicle of the Year, and Autoweek’s Car Buyer’s Award.
